PALM COAST, Florida (SMU) – Sophomore
Brigitte Dunne and freshman
Faith Summers lead the 39th-ranked SMU women's golf team after two rounds at the American Athletic Conference Championship. Both rank inside the top 10 with Dunne in a two-way tie for fourth place, and Summers tied for sixth after her team-leading 2-under second round.
Summers' (72-70--142) second-round performance saw her climb five spots on the individual leaderboard and was a season-best for the freshman, whose previous low of 71 was shot twice at the Mason Rudolph Championship in September. The freshman carded a nearly unblemished round with three birdies and a single bogey on No. 4.
Dunne (68-73--141) maintained her status in the field's top five after a 1-over 73 second round, which puts her at 3-under 141 for the tournament.
"I'm really proud of the way Brigitte and Faith played today," head coach
Jeanne Sutherland said. "They went out there, followed their plan and had a nice round of golf."
Ten players sit tied for 13th, including senior
Lindsey McCurdy (75-73--148), who registered a 1-over 73 performance on the second 18 to bring her two-day total to 4-over 148.
Freshman
Ana Paula Ramirez (75-74--149) is 5-over tied for 23rd, while classmate
Kenzie Wright (76-79--155) is in 39th.
"Overall I think we played well," Sutherland added. "Unfortunately the putts didn't fall, but the whole team was focused and did their best today."
