The Last Time Out…
The SMU novice rowing team earned a third place finish with a time of 8:16.94 in the Novice 4 final last Sunday at the Knecht Cup in Mercer, New Jersey. SMU's 2V8 boat also earned a third place finish in the 3rd Final with a time of 7:10.14 and the 1V8 boat took a second place finish in the Petite Final with a time of 6:47.80 on Sunday afternoon.
On Saturday, SMU advanced four crews to the semifinals despite several races suspended on Saturday afternoon due to high winds. In Heat 4, the Novice 4 boat placed second with a final time of 8:28.04 to advance to the semifinals where they finished first, crossing the line at 8:12.16. The 2V8 boat raced heat, semi and final races on Sunday.
In 1V8 action, the Mustangs finished in second place out of Heat 4 to advance to the semifinals where SMU finished fourth with a time of 6:52.01 to earn a spot in the Petite Final on Sunday afternoon.
Mustangs' Fall Season…Â
At the Head of the Brazos in Waco, Texas, SMU posted a commanding first place finish in the Open 2x and Novice 8+. SeniorÂ

Lauren Vanek took first in the Open 2x (19:23.02) for the Mustangs, crossing the finish line 1:16.00 before the next competitor. Two Mustang boats competed in the Novice 8+. The first finishing with a time of 20:45.40, earning the Ponies another first place finish. The second finished at 22:46.72, earning fifth place.
The SMU rowing team posted several top-three finishes at the 2016 Tulsa Fall Invitational. Varsity 8+ clocked in at 14:32.0 for a third place finish and was followed by an eighth place Mustang crew that finished 15:34.2. In Novice 4+, the Ponies earned a first place finish with a time of 17:24.1, beating three Kansas Jayhawk boats. The second Novice 4 boat finished fifth with a time of 20:30.5. The Mustangs grabbed another first place finish in the Varsity 2x with a time of 16:30.4. SMU also earned third place (17:43.7), fourth place (18:07.2) and fifth place (20:04.3) finishes.
