TEMPE, Ariz. (SMU) – Senior
Lindsey McCurdy continues to lead the SMU women's golf team at the PING/ASU Invitational, carding a 1-under 71 on the second 18 holes to climb two spots on the individual leaderboard into eighth place.
McCurdy fired three birdies on the front nine, before going on to register an unblemished back nine. Her two-day total stands at 2-under 142, and her pair of 71s this tournament brings her season total to a team-best 17 rounds of par or better. The amount also extends her mark for the program's most rounds of par or better since the 1993-94 season.
Freshman
Kenzie Wright and sophomore
Brigitte Dunne both shot 3-over 75 in the second round, placing Wright (71-75--146) in a tie for 21st after 36 holes and Dunne (72-75--147) in a tie for 28th.
Freshman
Faith Summers (80-73--153) closed out the scoring for the Ponies, rising nine spots on the individual leaderboard after shooting 1-over 73.
The Mustangs fell one spot on the team leaderboard into a two-way tie for eighth place with LSU at 12-over 588. No. 5 Arizona State leads the field at 10-under 566 after a second-round even-par 288. ASU's Monica Vaughn continues to lead the field at 8-under 136.
"We're doing a lot of good things, but once we get it rolling we give a few shots back with some unforced errors," head coach
Jeanne Sutherland said. "We're going to need to clean it up a bit and finish things off by playing smart golf tomorrow."
The PING/ASU Invitational concludes Sunday with round three action beginning at 9:30 a.m. CT. SMU is paired with Oregon State and LSU.
