HOUSTON (SMU) – The SMU women's tennis team picked up its third conference win with a 7-0 road victory against Houston Saturday afternoon at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility.

The Mustangs grabbed their first road win of the season and improved to 16-4 overall and 3-0 in The American, while the Cougars fell to 9-11 and 1-3 in league play.

SMU grabbed the first point in the match after registering wins in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Liza Buss paired up with Macie Elliott to easily defeat Lauren Alter and Sveva Mazzari, 6-2, while Dasha Sharapova and Sarai Monarrez Yesaki escaped with a 7-6 win against Ana Glumac and Constandena Nicolaou. The Mustangs also picked up a victory in No. 3 doubles with Mary Wright and Ellie Zogg winning by forfeit.

The Mustangs quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead as SMU received two points before the start of singles play after Houston forfeited the No. 5 and No. 6 matches. Dasha Sharapova clinched the match for the Mustangs with a 6-4, 6-0 win against Nicolaou.

In No. 4 singles, Charline Anselmo recorded her 15th win of the season in a close match against Glumac. Anselmo took the first set 7-5, but Glumac sent it to a third with a 6-2 win in the second. However, Anselmo grabbed the win with a 10-8 win in the third set. Buss completed the sweep for the Mustangs notching a 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) win against Mazzari in No. 1 singles.

SMU concludes its three-match road trip Thursday, April 13 at North Texas. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT in Denton at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
