ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (SMU) – Lindsey McCurdy and
Brigitte Dunne both shot 2-over 74 to lead the 41st-ranked SMU women's golf team in the second round of the NCAA Albuquerque Regional on Tuesday. Dunne's second-round score brings her 36-hole total to 5-over 149, and has her pacing the Mustangs sitting in a tie for 38th.
Dunne opened the day with a birdie on No. 1, but fell to +4 on the front nine. However, the sophomore bounced back on the back nine with birdies on holes 15 and 18 to close the day at 2-over. McCurdy posted the Mustangs' second lowest total on the first nine, at 1-over, and went on to match that score to finish out the day's 18. McCurdy is currently 13-over for the tournament.
Kenzie Wright and
Faith Summers also posted counting scores for SMU on day two, shooting 4- and 5-over, respectively. Coupled with scores from the event's first round, Wright is 6-over 150 and tied for 45th place, while Summers is 10-over 154, tied for 66th. Summers matched her birdie total from round one, bringing her to eight, which is the second most at the event.
Ana Paula Ramirez registered a 7-over 79 on the second 18 to move to +11 for the tournament.
As a team, the Mustangs carded a 13-over 301, a stroke better than their first round total. Overall, they sit 27-over 603 and in 12th place.
No. 1 Stanford moved into the lead after today's low round, sitting at 3-under 573. No. 36 Pepperdine (+1) fell one spot to second, and No. 6 USC (+4) is now in sole possession of third. The Cardinal's Albane Valenzuela shot 3-under to take the individual lead at 4-under 140.
NCAA Regional action concludes Wednesday with round three beginning at 8:30 a.m. CT/7:30 a.m. MT. SMU is paired with Campbell and N.C. State, teeing off on No. 10 at 8:30 CT. The top six teams and three individuals not on an advancing team at the conclusion of 54 holes will advance to the NCAA National Championship May 19-24 in Sugar Grove, Illinois.
