SMU Falls At Wichita State

McKenzie Adams Leads All Scorers With 22 Points

Box Score | Season Stats

Wichita, Kan. (SMU) - Senior McKenzie Adams logged her eighth 20-point game of the season, but SMU was unable to keep up with Wichita State's efficient scoring, falling 66-43 on Tuesday night.

Adams scored 22 points to lead all scorers in the game and continued her sharp shooting from the free-throw line, dropping in 7-of-8 from the charity stripe. Entering tonight's game, Adams ranked fifth in the American in free throw percentage.

Despite hitting just 24 percent from 3-point range entering the game, the Shockers used hot shooting from 3-point range to build their lead against the Mustangs. Wichita State hit 7-of-11 shots from beyond the arc (64 percent) while SMU struggled to get shots to go.

The Shockers didn't miss many shots from anywhere on the court, shooting 51 percent from the floor and 90 percent from the free-throw line. The Mustangs were able to get to the line much more frequently than Wichita State, but 67 percent shooting diminished some of the return.

While SMU had two fewer turnovers than Wichita State, the Shockers were able to take advantage of the Mustangs' mistakes more often. Wichita State finished with 24 points of turnovers, compared to the Mustangs' seven. The same applied to the offensive glass. The Mustangs finished with three more offensive rebounds, but Wichita State was able to accumulate three more second chance points.

The Mustangs are back on the road again on Saturday, traveling to UCF for a 1 p.m. tip.
