ORLANDO, Fla. (SMU) - Against the conference's top scoring defense, SMU struggled to find consistency on offense on Saturday afternoon, falling to UCF, 58-43.
Senior McKenzie Adams once again led the way for SMU on the offensive end, scoring a team-high 14 points. Adams has now reached double-figures in 16 of the Mustangs' 19 contests this season.
Johnasia Cash played expanded minutes with Dai'ja Thomas saddled with foul trouble, and the freshman found a way to make an impact. Cash grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds to lead the team while playing a career-high 30 minutes.
The Knights' defense was able to force SMU into 24 turnovers, leading to 20 of UCF's points. SMU was able to bother UCF as well, forcing 18 turnovers, but they only led to 12 points for the Mustangs.
UCF was also relentless of the offensive glass, grabbing 20 offensive rebounds that led to 20 second chance points.
The combination of UCF's points off turnovers and second chance points, coupled with shooting just 31 percent from the floor, was too much for the Mustangs to overcome on the road in conference play.
After two games on the road, the Mustangs are back at Moody Coliseum on Wednesday, hosting Cincinnati at 7 p.m.
