MEMPHIS, Tenn. (SMU) – SMU recorded its fifth shutout of the season in its 3-0 win against American Athletic Conference opponent Memphis on Friday night at Mike Rose Soccer Complex in Memphis.
Emil Cuello scored twice and
Akean Shackleford added his third goal of the season in the Mustangs' victory. The goal in the 14th minute was Cuello's fourth of the season.

Garrett McLaughlin passed the ball to Shackleford at the top of the box which led to a shot in the lower left side of the net and Shackleford's third goal of the season.
SMU continued attacking on all fronts in the second half. Cuello posted his fifth goal of the season, second goal of the evening in the 58th minute. He dribbled the ball into the box and shot it into the lower right corner to propel the Mustangs into a 3-0 lead.
SMU controlled the tempo of the game and led shots on goal, 9-4.
The Tigers had a few opportunities late in the second half to get on the board, but the Mustangs defense stood strong. JuniorÂ
Grant Makela recorded four saves on the night to maintain the shutout and seal the victory.
The Mustangs host Cincinnati on Saturday, Oct. 20 at Westcott Field at 7 p.m.
