AUSTIN, Texas (SMU) – The Mustangs are nine shots off the lead and currently sit in fourth place after the first round of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at UT Golf Club in Austin, Texas, on Friday.
Â
"We were very pleased with the effort and attitude the team brought to the course today," said Head Coach Jeanne Sutherland. "It was rainy all day so the course played long and even if you drove it in the fairway, the lie of the ball wasn't great. This team has already shown us this year that they can face challenges and succeed, and today was another page in that story they are writing this season. There's a lot of golf left, and our goal will be to limit mistakes and climb higher tomorrow."
The Mustangs are competing in a field that includes nine teams ranked in the top 50 by Golfstat.
Sophomore
Lauren Chappell, who leads SMU, turned in her scorecard with an even 72 on the day and is currently tied for fourth.
Senior
Brigitte Dunne fired a two-over (74), recorded two birdies, and is tied for 14th. Sophomore
Kennedy Pedigo carded a four-over (76, T30).
Freshman
