NEW ORLEANS (SMU) – The Mustangs placed fourth at the American Cross Country Championships with three Mustangs registering All-Conference performances at Audubon Park from New Orleans.

The course dealt with weather problems that cause the start time to change twice and led to very soggy 6.2 K course for the athletes. Hannah Miller, the reigning conference champ, was neck-and-neck with champion, Winny Koskei of Wichita State throughout the race.

At the finish, Senior Svenja Ojstersek came the closest to Koskei with second place finish and time of 22.06.38. Miller would finish in fourth (22:33.01), her third top-five finish in as many tries at the conference championship. Anneke Grogan recorded her fourth top-10 of 2018 coming in 8th (22:58.03).

In first place as a team, Wichita State had a two-point advantage over second-place Tulsa and just four points over third-place Temple.
Charlotte Tara Murphy placed in 31st with a time of 24:03.11 followed by Robin Montemayor (24:42.77) who took home 43rd. Rounding out the SMU lineup, Alison Esparza finished in 50th (25:02.62) and Olivia Lackner came in 76th (26:21.52).

With three more all-conference runners, the Mustangs have the most of any school since the formation of the conference.

Next up, the Mustangs travel to College Station for the NCAA South Central meet.
