FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (SMU) -- Freshman Rose Mburu has punched her ticket to the NCAA Championship with a sixth-place finish at the South Central Region Championship this morning. She ran a time of 20:02.2 to secure her spot as the first Mustang since 2018 to qualify for Nationals.
"Rose making the NCAA Championship as an individual is an incredible accomplishment, especially as a freshman," Head Coach A'Havahla Haynes said. "She has been a force at the front all season, and I'm proud to see her effort earn this opportunity."
Earning All-Region honors, Freshman Carolina Correia placed 22nd with a time of 21:06.2.
"Carolina ran with tremendous heart today and earned All-Region honors with a top-25 finish," Haynes said.
Freshman Sophia Keditukei and Senior Macey Hilton crossed the line three seconds apart in 31st and 32nd. Sophomore Ruby Little ran 21:58.4 for 52nd.
This young team placed fifth with a score of 141, matching last year's placement.
Mburu will now extend her season another week with her qualification to the NCAA Championship. She will compete in Columbia, Missouri on Saturday, November 22nd.
