DALLAS (SMU) - Opening UEC competition this Saturday (Oct. 27) at the Dallas Equestrian Center, the No. 3 Mustangs will vie for a win over the No. 10 Fresno State Bulldogs in SMU's first conference meet of the year. The top ten matchup will start at 10 a.m. and live scoring is located at https://bit.ly/2OiESXH

Currently, the Mustangs hold an undefeated 3-0 win record. But, despite the team's success so far, head coach Carol Gwin said the girls are not complacent.

"We have had a good start to our season, and I look for us to continue to improve," Gwin said. "We have yet to be mistake free, and Fresno State has always brought a good team to Dallas prepared and ready to compete."

The Bulldogs and Mustangs met twice last year, first in California at the Fresno Invitational, where the Mustangs won, 9-8, on Feb. 16.

Just over a month later on March 31 was the second time the two teams, who are 1,568.3 miles apart, met last year. During the UEC title round in Dallas, the Mustangs clinched their first UEC Championship in program history with a 13-3 victory over Fresno State.

SMU 's squad has impressed Gwin with their drive, but she said they are still striving to improve as they prepare for challenging meets ahead.

"This team really wants it," Gwin said. "They want to be winners, and we are continuing to push them to put in the effort it takes to get that accomplished."

After the last home meet against Georgia (Oct. 13) was delayed by rain, Gwin said the favorable weather is much welcomed for this meet day.

"I'm excited we have sunny weather in the forecast, and encourage everyone to come out and cheer us on," Gwin said.
