SMU Invitational Draws

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU women's tennis opened the SMU Invitational with a pair of singles victories at the SMU Tennis Complex on Friday.

Senior Vivienne Kulicke led the way for the Mustangs, defeating Abilene Christian's Allison Stewart in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 3 singles flight. Freshman Katherine Jakeway won her No. 5 singles flight match, topping Nanaka Takeuchi of UT-Arlington 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.

The doubles team of juniors Sarai Monarrez Yesaki and Tiffany Hollebeck also notched a win, defeating Austin Peay's Schmidt and Nikolaeva in the No. 1 doubles flight 6-4. Seniors Ana Perez-Lopez and Karina Traxler also won in No. 1 doubles, beating Georgia State's Ramirez and Stanescu 6-1.

Kulicke, Jakeway and the two winning doubles teams will play in semifinal matches tomorrow, while the rest of the Mustangs will compete in consolation brackets. Action gets underway at 10 a.m.
