DALLAS (SMU) – SMU suffered its first home conference loss Sunday, losing in straight sets against Tulane (25-17, 26-24, 25-18).
Brittany Adams scored a match-high 12 kills, and
Hannah Jacobs added 10 in the loss.
Tulane won its ninth straight match to improve to 21-7 overall and 9-4 in the American Athletic Conference, while SMU dropped to 9-14, 6-7 in The American. Adams had 14 digs for her 10th double-double of the season.
The Green Wave hit .207 with 42 kills and held SMU to a .091 attack percentage with 39 kills. Tulane recorded 15.5 blocks, while SMU posted six.
Tulane won the third set, 25-18, to end the match. SMU led 10-8, but the Green Wave went on a 7-1 run, taking a 15-11 lead. SMU cut the lead to two, 18-16, but could not get any closer.
Tulane took a 2-0 lead in the match, posting three straight blocks at the end of the set for a 26-24 win. SMU erased a three-point deficit midway through the set, using a 6-2 run to take a 19-18 lead. SMU maintained the advantage, and led 24-23 before Tulane's defense took charge at the net. The Green Wave won the first set 25-17, hitting .371 with 17 kills while limiting SMU to just 11 kills.
The Mustangs play at Tulsa Friday at 7 p.m.
