After an 81-73 win at Georgetown, the highlight of a non-conference schedule that SMU finished by winning six out of seven games, the SMU men's basketball team had the opportunity to tour the nation's capital. In addition to touring monuments and memorials along the National Mall, the Mustangs received a tour of the U.S. Capitol building from Congressman Pete Sessions and visited the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
"Being able to get the win and using that as a mini vacation, that was really cool," junior guard Jimmy Whitt Jr. said. "Being able to see [the Capitol] is once in a lifetime."
"He was so into not just showing us around but trying to make an impact on their lives and get our players to think big beyond basketball and think about impacting others, if not the country," head coach Tim Jankovich said of Sessions.

"I know it had a big impact on me," Whitt said. "There was a way paved for me to be where I am today...to continue along the path and help pave the path for people that come after me, I think that was the biggest message for me."

SMU opens the American Athletic Conference schedule on Wednesday, Jan. 2 by hosting East Carolina at Moody Coliseum at 7 p.m.
