DALLAS (SMU) – The Mustangs fell, 4-3, to USF (2-6) on Sunday in a tight match that came down to the final set of No. 3 singles. SMU is now 5-5 overall and 0-3 in American Conference matches.

SMU proved dominant in doubles play, earning wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Karina Traxler and Sarai Monarrez Yesaki joined to defeat Nicole Dzenga and Vanja Klaric, 6-1, while Nicole Petchey and Ana Perez-Lopez defeated Alexandria Mjos and Ana Roman Dominguez, 6-1.

The Bulls and the Mustangs exchanged points in singles play, with SMU gaining wins at No. 1 behind Anzhelika Shapovalova (6-2, 6-3) and No. 4 behind Traxler (6-3, 2-6, 6-2).

With the score tied at 3-3, No. 3 singles became the deciding match. Monarrez Yesaki fought back from a four-game deficit in the final set, but ultimately lost the match, 4-6, 6-4, 3-6, to give USF the victory.

The Mustangs travel to California on Tuesday to face UC Santa Barbara and Loyola Marymount for the team's first road matches of the season.
