HOUSTON (SMU) - After rain washed away the first two rounds on Monday, SMU grabbed a seventh place finish at 6-over in the 17-team field at the Dickson on Tuesday.
Each team that finished ahead of the Mustangs in the 18-hole tournament was ranked inside the Golfstat top-50. SMU most notably finished ahead of No. 23 Iowa State and No. 44 Texas Tech.
SMU was led by junior Brigitte Dunne, who fired an even-par round to finish 14th in the 90-golfer field. Dunne has finished in the top-15 in five of the seven tournament this season. The round also marked the 10th time this season the Camarillo, California, native fired an even-par or better round.
Sophomore Ana Paula Ramirez matched the best finish of her Mustang career by placing 21st at 1-over par. Both Dunne and Ramirez led the Mustangs in birdies with three apiece.
All four of SMU's counting scores finished inside the top-40 individually, with Kennedy Pedigo finishing 32nd (+2, 74) and Faith Summers finishing 38th (+3, 75).
"We played good golf," head coach Jeanne Sutherland said. "We made a few too many unforced errors, but we're getting closer and closer. We didn't finish on some of the hardest holes and have some things to clean up, but we're getting closer."
The Mustangs were especially effective on par-fives, posting at a third-best 3-under par on those holes.
Clemson finished as the top team at a combined 5-under par, while Texas State's Sasikam Somboonsup finished atop the individual leaderboard at 5-under.
Next up for the Mustangs is a trip to Provo, Utah, to compete at the Entrada Classic on March 12-13.
