ORLANDO, Fla. (SMU) - Junior Brigitte Dunne delivered an under-par round for the second straight round to earn a third-place finish at the UCF Challenge in SMU's first tournament of the spring slate.
After finishing round one in a tie for 34th, Dunne combined to shoot 4-under par to climb all the way up to third place on the leaderboard and finish even par for the tournament (76-69-71—216). The junior now has six under-par rounds this season and three top-five finishes.
In a tournament that included five teams from the American Athletic Conference, Dunne's third-place finish tied UCF's Kaeli Jones as the best finish by an American golfer.
Sophomore Kenzie Wright grabbed her best finish of the season, concluding her tournament inside the top-30 at 29th. Wright provided the Mustangs' top score in round one and provided two steady performances to close out the tournament at 7-over (73-75-75—223). Â
Both sophomore Ana Paula Ramirez and freshman Kennedy Pedigo contributed a final-round 74 to the team total. Ramirez finished the tournament in a tie for 37th, while Pedigo ended play in a tie for 44th just one stroke behind in the 90-golfer field.
As a team, the Mustangs finished tied for ninth at 24-over in a 16-team field that included seven of Golfstat's top-50 teams. SMU finished one stroke ahead of No. 44 Texas Tech.
Miami grabbed the team championship by finish at a combined 4-over par. Miami also grabbed medalist honors with Dewi Weber topping the individual leaderboard at 7-under.
The Mustangs are back in action on February 18-20 at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate in New Orleans.
