DALLAS (SMU) - On senior night at White Rock Lake, SMU won each of the seven 1,000-meter pieces against Creighton at the Mustangs' lone home scrimmage this season.
"I want to thank Creighton for making the trip here," head coach Kim Cupini said. "I'm proud of how the team responded to the shortened pieces. It's was a great start to our spring break."
The first V4+ team of Katie Lei, Haley Hamilton, Bridgett Miller, and Rachel Thibeau started the day off strong for the Mustangs, winning the first race by nearly 27 seconds. The time of 4:11.6 was faster than any of the V4+ times in the Mustangs' spring opener. From there, the wins kept coming.
SMU's 1V boat (Coxswain: Emily Fogg - Rowers: Brittany Rigg, Juliet Traylor, Alyssa Sands, Erin Pierce, Madison van Meel, Megan Scott, Brittany Courteau, Lauren Vanek) picked up three wins on Friday evening, notching a best time of 3.22.2.
High winds in the area caused the race to be shorted to 1,000 meters. The teams did get in 2,000-meter work on Thursday, which the Mustangs also won.
After the regatta, SMU honored the six seniors (Brittany Courteau, Gel Greene, Eki Olumese, Paige Papesch, Alyssa Sands, and Lauren Vanek) for their contributions to the program to conclude a very successful Friday on White Rock Lake.
The Mustangs now turn their attention towards spring break, which the rowers will kick off on Monday by volunteering their time in a lake clean-up effort.
SMU has a short break before returning to competition on March 24-25 at the San Diego Crew Classic.
