MESA, Ariz. (SMU) – Ralph Koo and Stephen Cheng represented the SMU men's swimming team at the TYR Pro Swim Series held at the Skyline Aquatic Center in Mesa, Arizona, over the weekend.
The event in Mesa is one of six TYR Pro Swim Series events to take place throughout the course of the 2018 season, and features top domestic and international swimmers, as well as those at the junior, collegiate and professional levels.
The duo made its highest finals appearance in backstroke events, with Cheng advancing to the 200-meter backstroke Consolation Final, and Koo doing so in the 50-meter backstroke. Cheng posted the highest finish of the event at 14th in the 200 (2:10.25), while Koo was 16th in the 50 (28.77).
Cheng also advanced to the C Final in both the 50 and 100-meter backstrokes, finishing 18th and 21st, respectively. Koo was in the 100 back D Final, where he finished 30th.
Koo also competed in a pair of butterfly finals, making appearances in both the 50-meter (27th) and 100-meter (31st) D Finals.
The event closed out the Mustangs 2017-18 schedule. Various Mustangs will compete in the U.S. and internationally throughout the summer.
