SARASOTA, Fla. (SMU) - At the Sunshine State Invitational on Friday and Saturday, SMU was led by the bronze finish of the first varsity four boat consisting of Melissa Chambers, Lisa-Marie Burckhardt, Trevor Rose, Bailey Peterson, and Caroline Snyder.
SMU's first varsity four shaved more than 11 seconds of its day one to time to finish in third place with a time of 7:25.17, ahead of conference rivals UCF and Tulsa.
The Mustangs' first varsity eight boat provided the top finish on day one, finishing fifth with a time of 6:41.53. On day two, the SMU 1V8+ finished just three seconds out of third place.
"We made progress this weekend learning how to be better racers and were able to see where we stack up against conference opponents before our championships in May," junior Emily Fogg said. "I'm proud of how the V8 raced a really tight finish against two ACC schools. We now have some things to work on at home. Also, we were proud of our four which took home a top three finish against tough competition in some tight racing."
Next up for the Mustangs is the Cherry Hill Invitational on Saturday, April 21. The regatta will serve as a tune up for the American Conference Championships, which will also be held in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
