DALLAS (SMU) – SMU Football Gameday is back and better than ever in 2018. As part of its on-going efforts to enhance the gameday experience, SMU Athletics is offering fans a number of improvements at Gerald J. Ford Stadium this season.
The Mustangs home opener is set for Friday, Sept. 7, when SMU welcomes TCU to town in the Battle for the Iron Skillet and the season's annual Whiteout game. Non-conference opponent Houston Baptist also visits Ford for Family Weekend on Sept. 29, and a Nov. 3 match-up is set with Houston for Homecoming. American Athletic Conference opponents Navy, Cincinnati and Memphis are also on the Mustangs' home slate.
New in 2018, the Official Mobile App of the SMU Mustangs is now available in both the Apple App Store and Google Play. The free mobile app will serve as a one-stop shop for video, scores and news, and will allow fans to link their SMU Tickets and Ticketmaster accounts for easy access on gameday via mobile tickets. Fans will also have quicker access into the stadium with newly added metal detectors for a safe, speedy entry.
In stadium, SMU will offer value concessions pricing at select stands around the stadium. Highlights of this new menu include $3 hot dogs, nachos and pretzels, $2 sodas and waters and a $5 16 oz. beer. Higher-end food and beverage options are available at other stands and food trucks in and around the stadium.
SMU students will also experience a new seating location in the north end zone, as "The Stables" party platforms have taken over the student section. The Stables will offer a unique gameday setting for SMU students to experience games at Ford, by offering a club-type setting with bar height tables, umbrellas, seating and a deejay.
New ribbon boards have also been installed in both the north and south end zones so fans never miss the game's stats and highlights. The LED boards provide nearly 1,100 square feet of digital space for graphics, real-time game updates, game prompts and sponsor content.
For the young Mustang in your family,
Peruna's Pals offers more than ever before in 2018. Sign your SMU fan up for exclusive benefits including free admission to select athletics events, as well as prizes and gameday experiences. Registration also includes free admission when the Mustangs take on Cincinnati Oct. 27.
A clear bag policy will again be enforced at Ford Stadium. As at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, the only permitted bags are those made of clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC which do not exceed 12 x 6 x 12 inches, one-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (Ziploc or similar) or small clutch bags (approximately the size of a hand), with or without a handle or strap. All bags except those approved under the clear bag policy are prohibited. Additionally, all fans will also be subject to security wanding or metal detectors prior to entering the stadium.
SMU strives to provide our guests with an exceptional experience, from the moment that fans leave for the game to the time they return home. To that end, SMU has created a transportation and parking plan designed to keep the traffic moving, make it easy to park and ensure the safety of fans as they make their way into the stadium. Fans can get to the game using
Lyft or Dallas' great public transit system,
DART. Round-trip passes cost just $6 and parking is free at the DART stations. Mockingbird Station, which is serviced by the Blue, Red and Orange DART Lines, is conveniently located near the SMU Campus. A gameday shuttle bus service is available from Mockingbird Station or fans can take the short walk to Ford Stadium. Many fans don't realize that Mockingbird Station is actually closer to Ford Stadium than SMU's famous Dallas Hall.
SMU is coming off a 2017 season which saw the Mustangs finish with seven wins and the first bowl appearance since 2012. One of only two teams in the nation to finish with a 3,000-yard passer, 1,000-yard rusher and two 1,000-yard receivers, the Mustangs ranked seventh nationally in fourth-down conversion percentage (.700), while ranking in the top 15 in first down offense (312), scoring offense (37.8) and total offense (478.5).
Xavier Jones has been selected as a candidate for the Maxwell Award, Doak Walker Award and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch Lists, while
Jordan Wyatt is a nominee for the AFCA Good Works Team and a member of the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List.
Ben Hicks (Manning Award, Earl Campbell Tyler Rose),
James Proche (Biletnikoff),
Braeden West (Paul Hornung) and
Jamie Sackville (Ray Guy) have also received recognition on preseason watch lists.
