Traxler and Perez-Lopez Win Two Doubles Matches at Rainy Rice Invitational

HOUSTON, Texas – The SMU women's tennis doubles team of seniors Ana Perez-Lopez and Karina Traxler won two matches on a rainy second day of the Rice Invitational at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.

Perez-Lopez and Traxler started the day by defeating the team of Gerits and Chitdara from Houston 6-2 in the Flight 1 consolation draw. They then topped Alexandrova and Stretton of Maryland 6-3 in the consolation final.

Junior Sarai Monarrez Yesaki and sophomore Emma Pieroni also played two doubles matches, dropping both contests in the Flight 2 consolation draw.

Traxler started her Flight 1 singles semifinal match against North Texas's Tamuna Kutubidze before the rain hit, but the match was suspended with Kutubidze leading 6-3, 5-5 (40-30). Perez-Lopez also started her semifinal in Flight 2 against Rice's Linda Huang, splitting the first two sets with Huang leading the third set 2-1. Each match will resume tomorrow morning.

Both Traxler and Perez-Lopez will play a second match Sunday afternoon, while Monarrez Yesaki and Pieroni are scheduled for two matches on the day. Action will begin at 8 a.m.
