SMU Falls On Road To ECU

BOX SCORE PDF

GREENVILLE, N.C. (SMU) – SMU dropped its first conference match of the season, 2-1, on the road to ECU on Sunday.

After a quiet first 40 minutes of action, ECU (6-4-2, 1-3-0) was able to jump on the Mustangs with a goal towards the end of the first half. After being brought on as a substitute, Daria Draovitch pushed one past Catie Brown for the game's first goal. It marked the first time SMU had trailed in the first half during the 2018 season.

The Pirates were able to capitalize on an early second-half corner that SMU wasn't able to clear. Maddie Knaggs collected the ball after a scramble in the box and poked it in. The goal put the Mustangs behind by two goals for the first time this season.

In the final 10 minutes of the game, the Mustangs (8-3-1) pushed ECU back with constant threats. In the 84th minute, ECU headed out a Celiana Torres corner right to Hailey Bishop. The junior floated one across goal into the top corner to give the Mustangs life. SMU generated three more corners before time expired but were unable to find the difference maker.

The Pirates held the advantage in shots, 16-13 and shots on goal 6-4. The Mustangs finished with an edge in corners 7-3.

Next up, the Mustangs return to Westcott Field to face Tulsa and Memphis in the final home weekend of the regular season.
