DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's swimming and diving team wrapped up competition at the two-day SMU Classic inside the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium Saturday. All six teams at the event were represented at the 2019 NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships, while No. 21 Louisville, No. 13 Auburn and rv Northwestern are featured in the preseason TYR Top 25 Poll.
For the second day, the Mustangs took fourth in the opening event, this time the 200-yard medley relay. It was again
Felicia Anderson,
Gabi Grobler,
Erin Trahan and
Sam Smith who combined for a time of 1:40.35 in the race.
Grobler turned in an impressive performance in the Championship Final of the 200-yard individual medley, clocking a personal-best 2:00.43 for third place. Grobler also competed in the top final of the 200-yard backstroke, finishing fifth. Overall, she registered 41 points in the high-point standings to lead the way for the Mustangs.
Fellow backstroke specialist Anderson finished as the runner-up in the 200 back Consolation Final in 1:58.38
In the 200-yard breaststroke,
Elise Johnson finished in a career-best time of 2:19.54, good for fourth in Consols.
No. 21 Louisville won the team title with 333 points ahead of No. 13 Auburn (331) and Northwestern (315). Iowa was fourth (242), followed by Miami (230) and SMU (223). Northwestern's Calypso Sheridan was named the High-Point Swimmer, while Alison Maillard earned High-Point Diver honors.
The Mustangs are back in action Wednesday, Oct. 23 when they travel to Houston for a 1 p.m. match-up with their American Athletic Conference foes.

The Classic features eight swimmers and one diver from each competing institution. Swimmers may swim three events per day, one of which must be a relay. Each team will enter one swimmer per heat (Consolation & Championship), while relays will only have a Championship heat. Diving events will consist of six optional dives on 1 meter and 3 meter boards.
