DALLAS (SMU) – SMU dominated the field of play, but ultimately fell 1-0 to Cincinnati on Thursday night at Westcott Field.
The Mustangs (8-5-1, 1-4-0) held approximately 60 percent of the possession throughout all 90 minutes against the Bearcats (6-6-2, 4-1-0). Dominating on offense, SMU had 21 shots compared to Cincinnati's six. In the second half alone, the Mustangs outshot the Bearcats 15-1.
Cincinnati broke away and was able to put the game-winner into the net in the 36
th minute when Sydney Goins shot and scored, assisted by Sophie Gorman and Vanessa DiNardo. The goal was only the third that the Mustang defense has allowed in the first half all season.
Eight Mustangs contributed to SMU's 21 shots, with all of them tallying two or more.
Celiana Torres led the charge with four followed by
Jewel Boland,
Allie Thornton and
Hannah Allred, who all had three.
Both teams totaled five shots on goal.
Tatum Sutherland saved four of the five that she faced to help the Mustang defense keep the difference to one.
