OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (SMU) – In the first competition of the season, the Mustangs earned a pair of first-place finishes at the Head of the Oklahoma. The Mustangs also had four other top-five finishes in the two-day event that featured rowing teams from colleges and clubs across the country.
In her third season as head coach,
Kim Cupini has a freshman class that won the Novice 8+ with a time of 15:27.64 on the 2.5-mile course. SMU's novices also posted third- and fifth place finishes in the Novice 4+ with times of 16:32.45 and 17:21, respectively.
On Sunday, SMU won the Varsity 4+ with a 16:52.31, and the Mustangs had three boats in the top 10 in the event. The Varsity 4+ posted a 15:34.32 on Saturday to finish fifth, 10 seconds behind first-place Oklahoma. The Varsity 8+ finished fourth in its event, crossing the line in 14:14.98, nine second out of second in a field of 17 crews.
The Mustangs return to competition Nov. 1 and 2 at the Tulsa Invite in Tulsa, Okla. SMU also competes at the Virginia Romp on Nov. 17 to conclude the fall slate.
