
Mustangs Wrap Up Season With 16th-Place Regional Finish

FINAL RESULTS
DALLAS (SMU) - SMU cross country wrapped up its season with a 16th-place performance at the NCAA South Central Regional on Friday morning in Arkansas.

Three Mustangs finished in the top half of competitors at the Regional meet from University of Arkansas' Agri Park. With a limited roster, the Mustangs posted the best score of any team that ran five athletes. SMU finished nine points back of 15th-place A&M-Corpus Christi and 25 points ahead of 17th-place North Texas in the 22-team field.

Tess Misgen was the Mustangs' leading finisher for the fourth time this season. The junior came in 52nd with a time of 22:34.0.

Sophomore Olivia Lackner made up significant ground during the race, jumping 33 spots from the first split and finishing in 58th with a time of 22:42.4. Finishing close behind, Lior Kremer was the top finisher among the three Mustang freshmen. Kremer clocked in at 22:51.7 in 64th place. Fellow freshmen, Maddie Hulcy (23:14.1) and Eve Hoeltgen (26:23.7) finished in 84th and 147th, respectively.

Arkansas ran away with the team title, finishing with each of the top five slots. Texas earned the other automatic qualifier spot with its second-place finish.

The season comes to a close for the Mustangs after a successful first year under head coach 'A Havahla Haynes. Running with a young and small squad, the Mustangs took home one race title, winning the Ken Garland Invite and defeating the likes of TCU, UTA and North Texas. Freshman Maddie Hulcy finished in second at the Garland Invite, the best SMU individual finish of the season. The three freshman contingents of Hulcy, Hoeltgen and Kremer, represented the young Mustang core. Sophomore Olivia Lackner was the most improved runner, cutting nearly four minutes off her time at the American Athletic Conference Championships from the previous season. Misgen returned to the Hilltop after a year away and finished as the top Mustang in the season's final three races.
