DALLAS (SMU) – SMU women's basketball suffered its first loss of the season as they fell, 61-52, to Northern Colorado Saturday afternoon at Moody Coliseum.

SMU controlled the game early with another strong defensive first quarter. With the four points allowed, the Mustangs have held opponents to just six points in the last two opening frames. The Mustangs led by as many as 13 in the second quarter before Northern Colorado closed the half on a 9-0 run to cut the lead to four.

Northern Colorado took advantage of a 13-0 run to take the lead and held an eight-point edge into the game's final period. SMU was able to cut into the Bear advantage to make it a five-point game in the final minute, but Northern Colorado was able to finish off its victory with some late forced turnovers.

Johnasia Cash and
Amber Bacon shared the lead with 12 points apiece. The Mustangs were hampered in the final period by three of the starters having four fouls heading into the closing stretch.
BriShonne Tollie chipped in eight boards and freshman
Reagan Bradley led the Mustangs with four assists.

The Bears improve to 3-0 in the all-time series. The Mustangs faced Northern Colorado in 2018-19 suffering a heartbreaking loss on a late Bear bucket.
