TULSA, Okla. (SMU) – The SMU rowing team finished first in the Varsity 8+, Novice 8+ and Novice 4+ at the Tulsa Invite Friday and Saturday. The Mustangs also finished second and third in the Varsity 4+ at the event, which featured crews from Kansas, Tulsa and Central Oklahoma.
SMU finished with a time of 17:46.64 in the Varsity 8+ event Saturday, nearly three seconds in front of Tulsa, and a full seven seconds ahead of Kansas. SMU's 2V8+ finished fourth with a time of 17:57.17, less than 11 seconds behind the SMU 1V8+, and just four seconds away from a podium spots.
The Novice 8+ finished nearly a minute in front of second-place Kansas with a time of 14:43.91 on Friday. SMU's second novice 8+ finished the race in third, 17 seconds in front of Kansas' second crew. SMU finished first and second in the Novice 4+ race, with times of 23:07.39 and 24:11.59, respectively.
In Friday's Varsity 4+ race, SMU had two of the top three finishes, with the second crew defeating the first crew with a 15:16.21, while the 1V4+ crossed the line two seconds later with a time of 15:18.88. SMU also posted a top-five finish in the singles race and two top-five results in the doubles event.
The Mustangs conclude the fall schedule Nov. 17 at the Virginia Romp in Charlottesville, Va.
