Mustangs Announce Addition of Six Signees

SMU Track & Field/Cross Country head coach 'A Havahla Haynes  announced the signing of six student-athletes to the 2020 recruiting class on Friday. 
 
"I'm excited about this group of young women joining the program," said coach Haynes. "The group brings national and international experience and I believe they are ready to contribute to our program right away."

Crowley

Jessie Crowley commits to SMU from Greer, South Carolina where she represents Riverside High School in distance races. he brought home first place at the Greenville County Championship in the 3000 meter along with a runner up finish in the 1600m. At the South Carolina State Championships, Jessie placed second in both the 1600 and the 3200 during her junior season. During the fall of 2019 Cross Country season, she won five titles including her Regional and County Championships and placed 15th at the State Championships. Crowley boasts a personal best in the 1600m of  5:07.86. 
 
Gearin


Kaitlyn Gearin has represented Tualatin High School in Oregon specializing in distance. Gearin has won several titles during her 2019 Cross Country season including a spot at state while competing at the Three Rivers Region Championship . At the 6A State Championships, Gearin placed in 10th with a personal record in the 5K of 17:47.6 and led Tualatin to an 8th-place finish. On the track, Gearin qualified for the 2018 State championships in both the 1500m and the 3000m. 
 
Jolly

 
 Jasmine Jolly signs her letter of intent to compete at SMU as one of the elite sprinters/hurdlers coming out of the UK.  As a member of the Birchfield Harriers Track and Field Club, Jolly earned the silver medal in the 400 hurdles in both the UK National Championships and the ESSA Championships and then earned the gold medal in the 300 hurdles at the World School games.  The Lancashire native, Jolly, holds many Lancashire records including in the 300 hurdles, 80 hurdles, and the 300 meters. She achieved her personal best of 59.47 in the 400 hurdles and a 57.97 in the 400m.  The Lanchashire sprinter is first in the UK in both the 300 and 400 hurdles. Her multiple gold-medal accolades include first place finishes at the English School Championships, National Indoor Championship, the Northern Indoor Championships and Lancashire County Championships.
 
Olsen

 
Mia Olsen joins the Mustangs from Phoenix where she runs distance for Xavier College Preparatory.  At the most recent state cross country championships, Olson finished in 6th in the 5K with a time of 18:46.1 which helped Xavier to a third-place finish. She was named All-State by Arizona MileSplit after her Championships performance. During the season, Mia also won the Cesar Chavez Sectionals.  She has a career best of 17:57.1 in the 5K. On the track, her accolades include a 6th-place finish in the 1600m at the Arizona State Championships. Olsen has posted personal records of 2:27.58 in the 800, 5:13.56 in the 1600 and 11:11.53 in the 3200.
 
Roberson
 


Raelyn Roberson from Glenview, Illinois specializes in long jump and sprints.  She posted the No. 2 nationally-ranked long jump in 2018. Also in 2018, Raelyn was runner-up at the Illinois State championships as a sophomore and then also qualified for the State championships in both the 100m and the 4x200 relay with her school, Glenbrook South.  In 2019, Raelyn outdid her previous State performance with a leap of 19' 5.5'' (5.93m) coming in fifth. She has career bests of 26.87 in the 200m and 7.41 in the 55m. Competing with TCBoost Track & Field Club, Roberson won the USATF Illinois Junior Olympics long jump title for the 17-18 division.
 
Wyles

 
Ruby Wyles is one of two athletes from the UK representing the Mustangs' 2020 recruiting class. In her career, she has posted her best time of 17:43 in the 5K while running for Guildford & Godalming at the collegiate level. Wyles represents Surrey County at the National and International level. She is ranked eighth in the UK U20 in the 3000m. Also excelling in the steeplechase, Wyles is ranked in both the 1500m and 2000m steeplechase.  She placed second in the 5000m at the England U20 championship over the summer. Ruby ran for Godalming at the Colleges National Championship winning a silver in  cross county and helping the South East win the team title. She recorded an eighth-place finish at the British Cross Country championship.
