DALLAS (SMU) – Hannah Jacobs and
Mekenzi Heckmann each scored 14, but it wasn't enough to lead SMU to victory in the regular-season finale against North Texas Friday in Moody Coliseum.
The duo combined for 28 of SMU's 58 kills in just the second match of the season without first-team all-conference selection
Rachel Woulfe. Woulfe missed the Oklahoma match one week before the start of the American Athletic Conference schedule. The score against the Sooners was 3-1, and North Texas left Dallas with a 3-1 win (25-15, 25-22, 14-25, 29-27).
Montana Watts had 33 of SMU's 93 digs, and
Lily Heim finished with 41 assists. The league's Setter of the Year also scored kills on six of 10 attempts.
Alex Glover added nine kills and two solo blocks.
The Mustangs finished the regular season with an 18-10 record, and won The American West Division with an 11-5 record in league matches. SMU's run for the conference championship ended one match short of the title match with a semifinal loss to eventual champion UCF.
