SMU hosts Georgetown on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. The Mustangs improved to 8-0 overall and 6-0 at home with a 77-51 win against Northwestern State on Tuesday.

The two teams have met just twice before with this being the first matchup at Moody Coliseum. Georgetown Head Coach Patrick Ewing was playing for the Hoyas when the programs met in the 1984 NCAA Tournament. The Mustangs evened the series with an 81-73 win in Washington, D.C. last season.

SMU was among those receiving votes in Monday's AP Top 25 Poll. The Mustangs have been in the AP Poll in six of the past seven seasons.

SMU is one of 16 unbeaten teams remaining in Division I. The 8-0 start includes winning the Southwestern Showdown presented by Engage Telehealth. SMU went 4-0, winning at UNLV and at home versus Jackson State, Hartford and Abilene Christian. Kendric Davis was selected MVP with Tyson Jolly and Feron Hunt named to the all-tournament team.

In the win over Northwestern State, five Mustangs scored in double figures. It was the third-straight game at least four players scored 10-plus. In addition to five scoring in double figures, six different Mustangs had at least five rebounds.

The Mustangs had a 47-32 rebound advantage, the fourth double-digit margin of the season. SMU held Northwestern State to 33.9% shooting, the seventh straight opponent under 40%.

The Mustangs are off to a 8-0 start for the first time since 2015-16, when the team started 18-0. It is the longest win streak for the Mustangs since a 16-game stretch from Jan. 15 to March 12 of 2017.

SMU is 45-10 in regular-season non-conference games under Tim Jankovich. The Mustangs are 37-3 at Moody Coliseum in those games, 3-4 in neutral-site games and 5-3 in true road games.

QUICK HITS:

• SMU won the Southwestern Showdown presented by Engage Telehealth. SMU went 4-0, winning at UNLV (72-68) and at home versus Jackson State (80-63), Hartford (90-58) and Abilene Christian (70-51). Kendric Davis was selected MVP with Tyson Jolly and Feron Hunt named to the all-tournament team.

• SMU Football went 10-2, and is one of 21 FBS teams with at least 10 wins. SMU Men's Basketball is one of 16 remaining undefeated teams. SMU and Ohio State are the only programs with 10 wins in football and are undefeated in men's basketball (both 8-0 through Dec. 4).

• The Mustangs have had three different players on the AAC Weekly Honor Roll; Tyson Joilly (Nov. 11), Isiaha Mike (Nov. 18), Feron Hunt (Nov. 25).

• SMU is 2-0 on the road with a 59-57 win at Evansville on Nov. 18 and 72-68 victory at UNLV on Nov. 23. SMU is one of nine teams that have multiple road wins without a loss (Through Dec. 4 - Arizona State, Evansville, Temple, DePaul, San Diego State, Delaware, Dartmouth, Wright State).

• The Mustangs have six players that have scored at least 15 points in a game this season: Tyson Jolly (6x), Feron Hunt (3x), Kendric Davis (3x), Isiaha Mike (3x), Ethan Chargois and CJ White. Jolly, Mike and Davis have had 20-point games. 

• SMU has held 7 of 8 opponents below 40% shooting. SMU is 48-3 under Tim Jankovich when holding opponents at or below 40%. SMU's field goal percentage defense is 36.2, which is 3rd in the AAC and 15th nationally.

• SMU has outrebounded 7 of 8 opponents. Under Tim Jankovich, SMU is 61-13 when having an advantage on the glass. The rebound margin of +9.2 is 2nd in the AAC and 19th nationally.

• In the win at UNLV, SMU was 12-12 at the free-throw line. It was just the fourth time in program history the team was perfect with at least 10 attempts. SMU is at 78.9% for the season, which leads the AAC and is 11th nationally.

• SMU had 4 score 10+ in the 74-65 win vs Jacksonville St (Tyson Jolly 21, Isiaha Mike 14, Feron Hunt 13, Ethan Chargois 10). First time SMU had 4 w/ 10+ in an opener since 2016 (Semi Ojeleye 26, Shake Milton 13, Sterling Brown 11, Jarrey Foster 11). The Mustangs have had at least four score in double figures 4 times this season, including the past 3 games.

Tyson Jolly is averaging 14.4 points (11th AAC) and 6.6 rebounds (T-16th AAC) while shooting 55.6% overall (8th AAC). He had a team-high 7 assists at UNLV and is now averaging 2.9. Has has 15+ points in 6 of 8 games. He was the first Mustang with 20+ points in each of the first two games since Shake Milton in 2017. 

Feron Hunt is averaging 13.3 points (15th AAC) and 8.4 rebounds (6th AAC) while shooting 56.9% (7th AAC). He is T-5th in the league lead with 2.8 offensive rebounds per game. He has 9 or more rebounds in 5 of 8 games this season and has three double-doubles. As a freshman, he averaged 7.6 points and 6.2 rebounds (T-1st SMU, 9th AAC). He had had at least 7 rebounds in 19 games. He also had 28 blocked shots and 25 steals in 32 games. He shot 55.4% FG as a freshman last season (4th AAC).

Isiaha Mike is averaging 15.9 points (4th AAC) and 6.9 rebounds (T-14th AAC) after averaging 11.7 points and 5.4 rebounds last season. He has also made a jump in FG% (57.3, T-5th AAC, from 45.3), 3FG% (51.5, 3rd AAC, from 36.8) and FT% (88.9, 4th AAC, from 76.3). He has scored in double figures every game this season.

.• Kendric Davis is averaging 15.8 points, 7.5 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 steals while hitting 50.0% FGs. He is 13-13 on FTs. [Have to play in 75% of games to appear in AAC rankings.]

.• Sophomore Everett Ray is averaging 3.4 rebounds in 14.5 minutes per game. Ray missed last season recovering from a foot injury.

.• Sophomore CJ White has 19 assists (2.4 per game) and 38 points (4.8) in eight games. Last season, he had 18 assists and 44 points in 24 games.

.• Four Mustangs have recorded double-doubles this season. Feron Hunt has three while Isiaha Mike, Tyson Jolly and Kendric Davis each have one.

• SMU is 79-38 under Tim Jankovich and 54-13 at Moody Coliseum

• SMU is 45-10 in regular-season non-conference games under Tim Jankovich, 37-3 at Moody Coliseum.

• SMU is 57-33 in AAC play since start of 2014-15 (3rd-best in the league). The Mustangs are 33-12 at Moody Coliseum.

• The win at [rv/rv] Evansville was the 10th victory under Tim Jankovich over a team ranked or receiving votes. It was the first since the 83-78 victory at [7/4] Wichita State on Jan. 17, 2018.

• SMU has 5 wins against AP Top 25 teams under Tim Jankovich (15 games). That is tied for second at SMU. Doc Hayes had 13 from 1947-67.

•  SMU has won two American Athletic Conference Championships (2015 & 2017).

•  SMU has had three players selected in the NBA Draft since 2017.Sterling Brown and Semi Ojeleye in 2017 and Shake Milton in 2018. Jahmal McMurray was selected in the 2019 NBA G-League Draft.

• SMU has surpassed 100,000 in home attendance for six straight seasons.

HUNTING FOR REBOUNDS: Feron Hunt is averaging 8.4 rebounds (6th AAC). He had a season-high 13 rebounds vs New Orleans. He has 7 or more rebounds in 24 of 40 games in his career, including 5 of 8 this season (10+ 4 times this season). Hunt shared the team lead in rebounding at 6.4 per game as a freshman last season. He was just the sixth Mustang to lead the team as a freshman.

FINDING THE RANGE: Isiaha Mike is hitting 51.5% from 3-point range (17-33) this season. That is third in the AAC. His 2.1 threes made per game are sixth in the AAC. He is now 39.6% from three in his time at SMU, which ranks 11th in program history.

LAST GAME (W, 77-51 vs Northwestern State on Dec. 3): DALLAS (AP) -- Isiaha Mike had 16 points to lead five SMU players in double figures as the Mustangs won their eighth consecutive game to open the season, romping past Northwestern State 77-51. Mike also had six rebounds, three steals and a block. CJ White added 15 points for the Mustangs. Everett Ray chipped in 14 and Emmanuel Bandoumel and Feron Hunt added 10 apiece. Kendric Davis chipped in nine points while dishing out eight assists. SMU sprinted to a 35-17 lead at the break and won the second half 42-34. Chudier Bile had nine points for the Demons (2-5).

THIS SERIES VS GEORGETOWN (1-1): SMU won the front end of the home-and-home series 81-73 in Washington, D.C. last season. The only other meeting was in the second round of the 1984 NCAA Tournament when the Mustangs fell 37-36 to the second-ranked and eventual national champion Hoyas.

LAST MEETING VS GEORGETOWN (W, 81-73 at Georgetown on Dec. 15, 2018): WASHINGTON (AP) -- Jahmal McMurray scored 19 points, Isiaha Mike and Ethan Chargois had 17 apiece and SMU defeated Georgetown 81-73 on Saturday. McMurray had four 3-pointers and Chargois three as the Mustangs (7-4) went 10 of 25 from distance while the Hoyas (7-3) were 4 of 18. SMU went on a 15-2 run with Nat Dixon, who started it with two 3-pointers, scoring all 11 of his points for a 23-17 lead. The Mustangs never trailed after that. McMurray converted all three free throws in the final minute for a 39-34 halftime lead and hit a 3 as the Mustangs scored the first five of the second half. The lead was 13 when the Hoyas reeled off 11 straight and it stayed close the rest of the way. SMU made 5 of 6 from the foul line in the final minute while Georgetown, which shot 40 percent for the game, missed its last three shots and was 1 of 8 in the final six minutes. Jessie Govan had 17 and James Akinjo 16 for Georgetown. It was only the second meeting ever, the first coming in the second round of the 1984 NCAA Tournament in Pullman, Washington, when the Hoyas won 37-36 behind current coach Patrick Ewing's 10 points.

UP NEXT: The Mustangs have 13 days until a matchup at Georgia on Dec. 20. Then a home game versus Georgia State on Dec. 23 before American Athletic Conference play opens with USF on Jan. 1.

NON-CONFERENCE REGULAR SEASON UNDER JANKOVICH: SMU is 45-10 in regular-season non-conference games under Tim Jankovich. The Mustangs are 37-3 at Moody Coliseum in those games, 3-4 in neutral-site games and 5-3 in true road games.

HEAD COACH TIM JANKOVICH... is in his fourth  season at the helm at SMU after four seasons as the associate head coach. He is in his 37th season as a collegiate coach, and his 15th as a head coach. As a head coach, he is 236-159 (.597) [79-38 at SMU (.675), including 54-13 at Moody Coliseum (started 36-0, second best in NCAA history)]. That includes a 104-64 mark at ISU where his teams recorded four top-three finishes in the Missouri Valley, reached the conference tournament final three times and earned four NIT bids. As an assistant or head coach, his teams are 628-375 (.626) with six regular season conference championships, four league tournament titles, nine NCAA Tournament appearances and eight NIT bids. This is his 12th season as the leader of a Division I program, including five as head coach at Illinois State (2007-12) and four at North Texas (1993-97). The 2017-18 Mustangs started 13-6 with three wins over ranked opponents, topping No. 2 Arizona in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, No. 14 USC at Moody Coliseum and No. 7 Wichita State on the road. In 2016-17, SMU finished 30-5 and No. 11 in the AP poll after winning The American regular season and tournament titles en route to the NCAA Tournament. In 2015-16, he coached the Mustangs to a 9-0 start as SMU was eventually the last unbeaten team in the country at 18-0, and winning the Las Vegas Classic title during the season-opening streak. The Mustangs went 25-5, finishing the season ranked No. 24 after reaching a high of No. 8. In 2014-15, the Mustangs claimed the AAC regular season and tournament championships en route to the NCAA Tournament. SMU was the top seed in the 2014 NIT, reaching the title game.

TROPHY CASE: Since the start of the 2013-14 season, the Mustangs have added seven items to the trophy case. SMU won the 2014-15 and 2016-17 American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles. SMU has also won 2019-20 Southwestern Showdown and the 2015-16 Las Vegas Classic. In 2013-14, SMU was the runner-up in the NIT.

ATTENDANCE: In 2018-19, SMU surpassed 100,000 in attendance for the sixth straight season. In 2014-15, SMU set a season attendance record of 124,986 total and 6,944 average. The New Moody single-game attendance record of 7,518 was set in the 60-51 win against then No. 11/11 Cincinnati (Feb. 12, 2017).

EMMANUEL BANDOUMEL (6-4, 180, G, SO.): 2018-19 (Hill College): Started 27 of 30 games played … Averaged 13.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 53.0% FGs, 39.0% 3FGs, 80.8% FTs.

ETHAN CHARGOIS (6-9, 235, F, JR.): 2018-19: Played in every game (started all but senior day vs Wichita State 3/3)... 12.4 points (2nd SMU, 23rd AAC), 6.2 rebounds (3rd SMU, 12th AAC), 2.0 offensive rebounds (2nd SMU, 15th AAC), 4.2 defensive rebounds (2nd SMU, 14th AAC) ... Had four double-doubles … shot 34.9% from three… GAME HIGHLIGHTS: Conference career high 21 points in 38 minutes vs. [12/12] Houston 3/7… Recorded career high 12 rebounds,16 points and 2 assists in fourth double-double of the season against Wichita State 1/30 … Had 18 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist in win over Tulsa 1/12 …Had 17 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and a career-high 4 assists in the win vs Lamar 11/27...Had 22 points and 11 rebounds with 3 assists, a seal and a block vs Lipscomb 11/17... KENDRIC DAVIS (5-11, 180, G, SO.): 2018-19 (Freshman at TCU): Played in all 37 games while starting two… Averaged 6.3 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game… Scored at least 10 points eight times… Scored a season-high 22 points at No. 17 Iowa State (2/9/19) on a season-best 7-of-10 shooting… Scored 16 points the following week against No. 14 Kansas (2/11/19)… Had a season-high six rebounds against Oral Roberts (11/11/18)… Had a season-high six assists against Central Michigan (11/30/18)… Made at least two 3-pointers in a game four times.

WILLIAM DOUGLAS (6-5, 193, G, JR.): 2018-19: Played in 25 games … totaled 19 points 17 rebounds… GAME HIGHLIGHTS: Had 2 points, a block, a rebound & an assist in 8 minutes in the win vs Connecticut 2/21.

FERON HUNT (6-8, 195, F, SO.): 2018-19: Played in every game, started 8... 7.6 points, 6.4 rebounds (T-1st SMU, 9th AAC), 4.5 defensive rebounds (1st SMU, 11th AAC), 0.9 blocked shots (2nd SMU, 12th AAC) … 19 games with 7 or more rebounds … GAME HIGHLIGHTS: Recorded career high 17 points and 14 rebounds in first double-double at SMU adding an assist, a block and a steal in win over USF 3/10 …Led the team with 14 points, 3 rebounds, an assist and a steal against Wichita State 3/3 … RECORDS: Shot 55.4% from the field, 20th all-time in a single season at SMU and 3rd by a freshman.

ISIAH JASEY (6-10, 250, F, JR-TR): Mid-year transfer | 2018-19 (Sophomore at Texas A&M): Played in 5 games … averaged 3.8 points and 2.4 rebounds … had 4 blocks and 4 steals... 2017-18 (Freshman at Texas A&M): Appeared in 15 games, including 2 NCAA Tournament contests.

TYSON JOLLY (6-4,190, G, JR.): 2018-19 (Sophomore at Trinity Valley CC): Started all 36 games … averaged 22.6 points, 12.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.5 blocks per game … shot 50.6% from the field and 35.1% on threes, and 78.1% at the free-throw line. GAME HIGHLIGHTS: Had a triple-double against Paris Junior College with 20 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists … Recorded a season high 45 points with 15 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks against Missouri State University-West Plains … Had season-high 22 rebounds against Pensacola State College … Finished the season with 35 games in double-digits and 28 double- doubles. DARIUS MCBRIDE (6-4, 190, G, FR): Prep: Named a three-star recruit by 247Sports & Rivals … As a senior, he averaged 14 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals … Named the Westlake HS MVP, Defensive Player of the Year and the Westlake HS Bert Praytor Award honoree … Was Academic All-District 26-5A and selected to the TABC Academic All-State Team.

DARIUS MCNEILL (6-3, 185, G, JR.): 2018-19 (Sophomore at California): Started 28 of 31 games and averaged 11.0 points, 1.4 steals and 0.9 assists while hitting 34.9% from three … … played 16 games with double digits … had five games with three or more steals. GAME HIGHLIGHTS: Recorded season high 23 points and 7 steals at UCLA.

ISIAHA MIKE (6-8, 215, F, JR.): 2018-19: Started every game... Averaged 11.7 points (4th SMU, 28th AAC), 5.4 rebounds (3rd SMU), 1.7 assists, 76.3% FTs (12th AAC), 36.8% 3FGs (12th AAC), 1.1 blocked shots (1st SMU, 8th AAC)...Had 19 games in double-digits, 8 games with 2 or more blocks and 5 games with 8 or more rebounds, had two double-doubles… GAME HIGHLIGHTS: Had a double-double (14 points, 11 rebounds) 3 assists, a block and a steal at Temple 2/13 … Had his first double-double at SMU (18 points, 10 rebounds) against UCF 2/10 … Team-high 18 points (4-7 3FG) with 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks against USF 2/7 Career-high 25 points (8-12 FG, 5-7 3FG, 4-4 FT) with 7 rebounds, an assist and a steal at Wichita State 1/30...Scored 20 points (7-10 FG, 5-5 3FG) with 3 steals, 3 rebounds and 2 assists vs Tulane 1/26... 2 assists vs Tulane 1/26...Had 17 points (including 9-13 FTs) and a game-high 9 rebounds with 4 assists, a block and a steal in the win at Georgetown 12/15... CHARLES SMITH IV (6-5, 185, G, FR): Prep: Named a four-star recruit by ESPN and No. 31 wing in the Country according to ESPN … rated three stars by Rivals and 247Sports … was a consensus top 50 performer at the Pangos All-American Camp where he led all prospects in three-point field goal percentage shooting 63.6% (7-11). In 2018-19, he helped lead Wheeler High School to the 7A Georgia Quadrant 4 semifinal.

ALEX TABOR JR. (6-2, 175, G, FR): Prep: Three-year starter and two-year captain for Charlotte Country Day School. All-State and All-Conference as a senior, All-Conference as a junior... Set six school records including 3FG in a game (9), season (98), and career (251) as well as free throw percentage in a season (88%) and career (82%)... Averaged 17.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in 30 games as a senior..

CJ WHITE (6-5, 215, G, SO.): 2018-19: Played in 24 games... Totaled 44 points and 40 rebounds… GAME HIGHLIGHT: Added 10 points, 4 rebounds and an assist in the win vs Western Carolina 11/14.

JAHMAR YOUNG JR. (6-9, 215, F, JR.): 2018-19: Played in 22 games … Totaled 12 points, 21 rebounds. GAME HIGHLIGHT: Had 2 points, 3 rebounds and a block in 9 minutes at Temple 2/13.

GRANT YOUNGKIN (6-3, 190, G, JR.): 2018-19: Sat out due to NCAA transfer rules (from Rice)

WIN STREAKS/START(S) IN PROGRAM HISTORY: SMU had winning streaks of 16 games and 10 games in 2016-17 in a stretch where the Mustangs won 26 of 27. In 2015-16, SMU started 18-0, which was the best start in program history, surpassing the 10-0 start by the 1997-98 team (Tim Jankovich directed the first nine games of the 18-game streak). The 18-game winning streak was the second-longest streak in program history (20 during 1955-56). The 7-0 start to the 2015-16 AAC schedule was the best league start since going 12-0 en route to the 1955-56 SWC title. SMU also had a 33-game home win streak from Feb. 13, 2016 until Jan. 10 2018, which is the second-longest in program history. The current 32-game home non-conference winning streak ranks second in the program (39 from 1952-1962).
