SMU hosts [23/22] Cincinnati on Wednesday at 8pm. The Mustangs fell 73-68 at Cincinnati in the first matchup of the season on Feb. 2. SMU had a chance to tie the game in the final five seconds, missing on a potential game-tying three-pointer by Jahmal McMurray. The Mustangs have won two of the past three matchups against UC at Moody Coliseum.

HEAD COACH TIM JANKOVICH... is in his third season at the helm at SMU after four seasons as the associate head coach. He is in his 36th season as a collegiate coach, and his 14th as a head coach. As a head coach, he is 226-155 (.593) [69-34 at SMU (.670), including 48-11 at Moody Coliseum (started 36-0, second best in NCAA history)]. That includes a 104-64 mark at ISU where his teams recorded four top-three finishes in the Missouri Valley, reached the conference tournament final three times and earned four NIT bids. As an assistant or head coach, his teams are 628-375 (.626) with six regular season conference championships, four league tournament titles, nine NCAA Tournament appearances and eight NIT bids. This is his 12th season as the leader of a Division I program, including five as head coach at Illinois State (2007-12) and four at North Texas (1993-97). The 2017-18 Mustangs started 13-6 with three wins over ranked opponents, topping No. 2 Arizona in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, No. 14 USC at Moody Coliseum and No. 7 Wichita State on the road. LAST GAME (L, 95-48 at UCF on Feb. 24) ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Tacko Fall had a season-high 23 points plus 20 rebounds as Central Florida routed SMU 95-48 on Sunday. Fall made 11 of 14 shots. BJ Taylor had 14 points for Central Florida (20-6, 10-4 American Athletic Conference). Terrell Allen added 11 points and eight assists. Aubrey Dawkins had 11 points for the home team. Central Florida had 58 total rebounds. Central Florida led 41-18 at halftime. Both teams set season records for scoring during the game. Jimmy Whitt Jr. had seven rebounds for the Mustangs (13-13, 5-9).

THE SERIES VS. CINCINNATI (5-11) (4-11+): SMU dropped first meeting of 2019 at [rv/rv] Cincinnati. Mustangs fell to Cincinnati in all three meetings in 2017-18, first at then- No.19/20 Cincinnati 76-56, before a 76-51 loss to then-No. 6/6 Cincinnati on Feb. 11 and a 61-51 loss in the AAC tournament on March 9. SMU won 2-of-3 meetings during the 2016-17 season, including a 71-56 win on March 12, 2017 to win the American Athletic Conference Tournament and earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. Earlier in the season, the Bearcats won the season opener, 66-64, on Jan. 12 at Fifth Third Arena, before SMU took the rematch 60-51 on Feb. 12 at Moody Coliseum. Since becoming conference foes, Cincinnati holds a 7-3 record over the Mustangs. Prior to the AAC, the series had been dormant since 1974-75. SMU won the only previous neutral site encounter in 1966, an NCAA Midwest Regional contest in Lubbock, Texas. (+4-11 officially all-time, 2-2 officially at home).

LAST MEETING VS. CINCINNATI (L, 73-68 at Cincinnati on Feb. 2, 2019): CINCINNATI (AP) -- Jarron Cumberland scored 24 points Saturday night, and Cincinnati let a 12-point lead slip away before rallying for a 73-68 victory over SMU. Cumberland hit a 3-pointer after SMU tied it late, helping the Bearcats (19-3, 8-1 American Athletic) pull out their seventh straight victory. SMU's Jimmy Whitt Jr. hit a shot with 19 seconds left that cut it to 70-68. After Cincinnati's Keith Williams made one of his two free throws, Jahmal McMurray was short on a 3-point attempt to tie it with 4.3 seconds left. Cane Broome sealed it with a pair of free throws. McMurray had 21 points for SMU (12-9, 4-5), which has lost four of five. The Bearcats made 8 of 17 from beyond the arc in the first half, when they led by as many as 12 points. Cumberland led the way with 13 points. McMurray made a pair of 3s and a 15-foot jumper that sparked SMU's second-half comeback, and Isiaha Mike's 3 tied it 60-60 with 6:17 to go. SMU wasted chances to take the lead down the stretch.

UP NEXT: The Mustangs will celebrate the seniors before the game against Wichita State on Sunday. Student-athletes James Pyle, Nat Dixon, Jahmal McMurray and Jarrey Foster will be honored in the pregame ceremony. Student-managers Connor Kolodziej, Sean Gowdy, Rakan Musmar and Robert Meszaros will also be recognized for their contributions to the program during the pregame festivities. The Mustangs close the regular-season on the road at Houston (March 7) and UCF (March 10). The Air Force Reserve American Athletic Conference Championship is March 14-17 at the FedExForum in Memphis.

SHORTHANDED: SMU has played most of the season with 9 scholarship student-athletes available (8 at Wichita State and Cincinnati). The Mustangs had 10 available for the games Jarrey Foster played this season. SMU played the last 11 games of 2017-18 with seven or less scholarship student-athletes available. Shake Milton missed the final 11 games (right hand), Jarrey Foster missed the last 14 games (left knee) and Everett Ray was out for the final 16 contests (right ankle, left foot). NBA - DRAFT: Shake Milton was selected in the second round (54th overall) of the 2018 NBA Draft. He was picked by the Dallas Mavericks, then traded to the Philadelphia 76ers where he signed a two-way contract. SMU's Semi Ojeleye and Sterling Brown were selected in the 2017 NBA Draft. Ojeleye was selected 37th overall by the Boston Celtics and Brown was picked 46th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers (traded to Milwaukee). This was the fourth time the Mustangs had multiple picks in the NBA Draft, but the first time with multiple selections in the first two rounds. Ben Moore signed as a free agent with the Indiana Pacers and is now on a two-way contract with the San Antonio Spurs.

IRA TERRELL HONORED ON JAN. 12: SMU honored the jersey of all-time great Ira Terrell during a halftime ceremony on January 12 at Moody Coliseum (77-57 win vs Tulsa). Terrell wore number 32 during his career from 1972-76. His jersey will join those of Mustang legends Jim Krebs, Jon Koncak and Gene Phillips in being recognized by SMU. Terrell was inducted into the SMU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012. He was the 1976 Southwest Conference Player of the Year and was a three-time All-SWC first team honoree. He is the only Mustang to average a double-double for three seasons. He finished his career as the SMU leader and now ranks second all-time in rebounds (1,077). He is also sixth in scoring (1,715) and second in career scoring average (21.4 per game). In 1973-74, Terrell led the Mustangs to a tie for second in the SWC and the Collegiate Coaches Association postseason tournament. He was selected by the Phoenix Suns in the third round of the 1976 NBA Draft. From 1976-78, he played for the Suns, New Orleans Jazz and Portland Trailblazers.

COACHING FOR LITERACY (CoachingForLiteracy.org): This is the fifth straight season SMU has hosted a CFL game (Jan. 2 vs East Carolina). Jonathan Wilfong (SMU '17) and Andrew Renshaw, two then-high school seniors from Memphis, Tennessee, founded Coaching for Literacy in 2012. Proceeds raised from the event go towards funding effective literacy programs focused on helping elementary and middle school students. Coaching for Literacy partners with collegiate and professional sports teams. --- The mission of Coaching for Literacy is to increase awareness about the number of people in America who are functionally or totally illiterate and the social problems associated with illiteracy. By leveraging the unique power of collegiate and professional sports, Coaching for Literacy raises money to supports effective local literacy programs and schools focused on educating elementary and middle school students. SMU hosted two CFL events in 2014-15, two in 2015-16 and one in 2016-17 and 2017-18. In 2016-17, the SMU staff wore neon green ties during a threegame stretch as part of the awareness effort from the home win against Stanford on Dec. 19 through the win a Memphis, WIlfong's home town, on Dec. 27.
