Mar 9

FINAL BOX   |   SEASON SCORE SHEETS 2018-19

SPRINGTOWN, Texas (SMU)—
In a Saturday road test at TCU, the No. 3 Mustangs won in scoring totals, yet fell to the No. 8 Horned Frogs in a 13-7 (1457.0-1507.5) upset, at Turning Point Ranch.

Nora Gray and Haley Zimmerman triumphed as MOPs in the contest, leading the surge on the Hunter Seat side.

The Mustangs move to a 7-4 (3-0 UEC) record, with all but one loss coming in away meet action to nationally ranked, non-conference opponents. TCU improves to 6-6 (1-3, Big 12).

Earlier this season, SMU outscored the Horned Frogs, 11-6, in Dallas, emerging with the win in the fall contest. However, despite their best efforts, the final tally fell in favor of the Horned Frogs today. In the seventeenth meeting of the two schools with a storied rivalry, the all-time series record stands at 9-8, with SMU stringing together the most wins.

SMU was spearheaded by the scoring efforts of their Hunter Seat squad, who won 3-2 both over fences and on the flat.

In Equitation over Fences, Nora Gray clinched her point 83-80 over Wynne Weatherly on Elle. Gray owns a record of 9-2 over fences and is the winningest rider in school history with 75 career wins. Continuing in the event, Olivia Woodson was also crowned with success, earning a 77-75 victory over Alex Beneson, riding Connor. On Mabel, Devin Seek rode to an 81-78 win over TCU's Izzy Baxter. Seek is currently 7-1-1 in the event and on a three-meet win streak.

Additionally, Elle Young, riding Biggie, earned a 73-66 win over Niki Barnes in her exhibition ride.

In Horsemanship, Ashley Mauney claimed the lone conquest for SMU, rising to a 4-4 record in her event.

The senior notched the only point for the Mustangs on the Western side, earning a 75.5-75 win over Natalia DeVencenty on Willy 2,  as the Horned Frogs executed a 5-0 sweep on the reining side.

In Equitation on the Flat, Kirsten Ostling defeated TCU adversary Niki Barnes, 89-81, riding Caprilli, while Haley Zimmerman secured a 90-82 victory over Horned Frog Jacey Albaugh on Lina. Vivian Yowan, riding Tag also outscored her opponent Izzy Baxter, 83.0-0.0. The junior has been very prolific on the flat this season, garnering a 10-0-1 undefeated mark on the season.

Madigan Eppink also eclipsed Horned Frog competitor Lily Geelan, 79-64, on Mac in her exhibition ride.

Coming up, both teams head to their respective conference championships. The Mustangs, who are the defending 2018 UEC Champions, travel to Martin, Tennessee, to vie for the conference tournament title again on March 22.
