WACO, Texas (SMU) -  At the NCEA National Championships, Moe and Alena won Most Outstanding Horse in Reining and Equitation Over Fences, respectively. Each school that competed brought horses to Waco's Extraco Events Center, and each team had to draw to determine which horse they would ride.

    Only one horse in each event won the award, and SMU's horses brought two of the honors back to the Hilltop for the first time in program history.

    Moe is donated by Jackspar Enterprises, LLC, while Alena is donated by Juliann Benson.

    Rosie (Fences), Dillon (Fences), Decker (Horsemanship), Stewie (Reining) and Tinsel (Reining) were named to the NCEA's Top 10 Horses.

    The Mustangs finished as the 2019 NCEA National Champion Runners Up in Reining, going farther than they ever have in the tournament. The team advanced to the Semifinals in a total of three events and rode in the Event Finals on Championship Saturday, as well. Madison Steed also earned Most Outstanding Rider honors in Reining.
