NABC Good Works Team Release

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (NABC/SMU) – SMU's Jarrey Foster was honored as a nominee for the NABC Good Works Team, which recognizes men's college basketball players for their outstanding community service efforts.

Foster was a two-year team captain and three-year men's basketball representative on the SMU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). He was a leader for SMU in the American Athletic Conference SAAC Powerful Minds initiative for mental health awareness. The Houston native has also helped lead two SMU men's basketball efforts to support hurricane relief via American Athletic Conference members; first with Houston for Harvey in 2017 and then with East Carolina for Florence in 2018. He helped with the student-athlete development podcast, using the October 2018 episode to talk about his journey to help younger student-athletes. He was also instrumental in the "Spread the Word to End the Word" initiative, suggesting pregame shirts to be worn by his team, leading to raised awareness.

The 2018-19 preseason all-conference selection led SMU to a 76-22 record in games he played, including five wins over top-25 opponents. The Mustangs had a 51-5 record at Moody Coliseum with Foster in the lineup. As a sophomore, he helped SMU to a program-record 30 victories as the Mustangs won the 2017 American Athletic Conference regular-season championship and the AAC tournament title to earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament.

At the 2018-19 Pony Awards, Foster received the Athletic Director's S.P.I.R.I.T. Award for his dedication to the principles of Service, Passion, Integrity, Respect, Innovation and Teamwork. He graduated in May with a degree in Sports Performance Leadership and a minor in Sport Management.
