COLLEGE STATION, Texas (SMU) - Mustang Cross Country continues their 2019 season with the Texas A&M Invitational set for Friday at 8 a.m. from the Dale Watts Cross Country Course. Â
Â
"With this being our third race in three weeks our goals are to take our training groups from practice and race together through 4k," said head coach
'A Havahla Haynes. Â "The last K will be intentional. Each individual will have to push a little extra toward bettering the team score."
Â
Last week, the Mustangs took home their first team title of the season at the Ken Garland Invite. SMU was led by freshman
Maddie Hulcy who finished in second overall. The Mustangs edged out fellow DFW programs, UTA, TCU and North Texas to take first. Along with Hulcy, the Mustangs recorded four top-tens with
Charlotte Tara Murphy,
Olivia Lackner and
Tess Misgen finishing in the single digits.
Â
Friday morning's race will take place from a familiar course for the Mustangs. Texas A&M's Dale Watts Cross Country Course hosted both the Arturo Barrios Invite as well as the NCAA South Central Meet in 2018. The Mustangs finished 7
th of 24 at the Barrios with
Hannah Miller recording a 3
rd place finish and SMU narrowly missed a spot at the NCAA Championships with a 6
th-place finish at the Regional meet. Miller and
Svenja Ojstersek both qualified for the NCAA Championships.
Â
Competing alongside the Mustangs on Friday morning are hosts Texas A&M as well as Baylor, TCU, UTRGV, UTSA and West Texas A&M.
Â
After the A&M invite, the Mustangs will have a month gap before their next competition when they travel back to College Station for the regular season's final meet, the Arturo Barrios Invite.
