DALLAS (SMU) -- No. 22 SMU wrapped up its five-game homestand on Friday night by defeating Valparaiso 6-0, improving to a perfect 5-0 on the season.

Six different Mustangs scored in the game, a feat that hasn't been accomplished since October 2014 when SMU beat Central Arkansas 7-0.

The Mustangs, once again, started off fast and furious. In the 10th minute, Knut Ahlander received a perfect cross from Eddie Munjoma and then volleyed it past the goalkeeper to put SMU up 1-0. Ten minutes later, Munjoma was on the receiving end, when Gabriel Costa fed Munjoma, who beat the keeper to give SMU a two-goal advantage.

For the next 14 minutes, the Mustangs dominated possession but couldn't break through until Brandon Terwege gained possession, passed it to Knut Ahlander who collected his fourth assist of the season when he found Garrett McLaughlin who netted his fourth goal of the season. Before the teams went to the locker rooms for half time, Henrik Bredeli rocketed a shot on goal that was blocked by the Crusaders' backline. That ball flew into the air, then Wyatt Priest left his feet and bicycle kicked it into the net to put the Mustangs up 4-0.

Tonight's four first-half goals bring SMU's tally to 12 goals scored in the first 45 this season - triple the number the team netted in its 2018 non-conference slate.

The second half was controlled by the Mustangs, who won 60 percent of the possession on the night and outshot the Crusaders 28-8 over the course of the game. In the 54th minute, Gabriel Costa, a transfer from Azusa Pacific made three defenders and the keeper miss as he scored his first career SMU goal. Costa's goal was followed by Noah Hilt who bent a free kick around the wall and into the top-left corner of the net, finalizing a 6-0 victory.

"It was a good performance," Kevin Hudson said post game. "We were able to bring the concepts from training in tonight and it's just one more step in the journey."

Shane Lanson started his third straight contest, and earned his third straight clean sheet.

The Mustangs now hit the road for a Monday night showdown at No. 2 Duke. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network+ and kick off at 6 p.m. CT.
