SMU hosts Wichita State in Moody Coliseum Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Mustangs won 78-50 in Dallas last season.

YOUTH GAINS EXPERIENCE
• SMU returns three starters and seven total letterwinners from last season's squad, which was one of the two youngest teams in the country based on average age. This season's returners accounted for more than half of the minutes played a year ago, with the three starters averaging at least 29 minutes.

RECRUITING YOUNG STARS
• Two seasons ago, Ariana Whitfield, a member of Travis Mays' first signing class, was named to the conference all-freshman team. Last season, Kayla White earned the honor after leading SMU with 11.4 points. This season, Mays added Arkansas Player of the Year and state champion Reagan Bradley.

MOODY MAGIC
• SMU is 378-239 at home all-time. Travis Mays has led the Mustangs to a 33-22 record in Moody Coliseum, winning 60 percent of home games.

LAST TIME OUT
Ariana Whitfield scored a season-high 23 points to lead SMU to a 57-38 win against Tulsa in Moody Coliseum Saturday. Whitfield came off the bench in the second quarter and finished 9-for-15 with five 3-pointers.
While the junior's offensive surge was a key, it was on the defensive end of the floor that SMU was most dominant. The Mustangs (8-10, 2-4 The American) allowed just three field goals in the first half, and led 35-13 at halftime.

THE OPPONENT - WICHITA ST.
• The Shockers won three straight AAC games before a loss to USF and an overtime loss at Houston.

NEXT ON THE SLATE
• The Mustangs return to the road to take on UCF in Orlando Saturday. SMU then plays at Houston before the next home game on Feb. 8 vs. Cincinnati.

AT HOME
• SMU is 6-6 at home with three one-point losses. The Mustangs held eight opponents to less than 60 points in Moody Coliseum, including a season-low 38 points against Tulsa. 38 points is the fewest scored by a conference opponent in Moody Coliseum since SMU beat San Jose State 58-37 on Jan. 15, 2005.

TEAM NOTES
• SMU set the Moody Coliseum record with 64 rebounds against North Dakota. The mark is tied for second in a game all-time at SMU (64 Feb. 19, 1998 at TCU; Record is 69 on Dec. 1, 1984).
• SMU averages 43.0 rebounds per game, 15th in the NCAA and second in The American.
• SMU is 49th in the NCAA and fourth in the AAC in field-goal defense, holding opponents to 36.6 percent from the field.
