KNOXVILLE (SMU) – Freshman Peter Smithson won 1 meter and finished top three on platform to lead the Mustangs at the Tennessee Diving Invite in Knoxville. The three-day event was held at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center Friday through Sunday.

Smithson posted an NCAA-Zone qualifying 321.35 to lead the field by over six points for the victory on 1 meter, before going on to finish the event with a top-three performance on platform. His platform score continued to keep him above the NCAA standard, as he finished with a six-round 306.35.

Smithson was also SMU's highest finisher in day one's 3-meter event, coming in sixth at 350.80.

Sophomore Parker Hardigree joined Smithson in all three event finals, earning his highest finish of seventh on platform (282.70). Hardigree finished 11th on 3 meter (313.30) and 12th on 1 meter (270.90).

Freshman Dominic Hoefer competed in preliminary rounds of both 1 and 3 meter, finishing 21st on 3 meter (262.00) and 25th on 1 meter (243.70).

The invitational included competition from Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, ECU, Iowa State, LSU, Minnesota, NC State, Princeton, Tennessee and Virginia.

The Mustangs are back in action Friday, Jan. 17 when they host West Virginia at 5 p.m.
