ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (SMU) - SMU track and field wrapped up day one of the Don Kirby Invite from the Albuquerque Convention Center with six of nine Mustangs posting personal records.
In the long jump, the first event of the day for SMU,
Atipa Mabonga topped her previous best with a distance of 5.52 to place in 32nd. Multi-athlete
Olivia Dobson recorded a personal record of 5.40 to finish just behind Mabonga in 37th.
Jacy Sparks was the lone Mustang competing in the 400m. She ran a personal record of 57.50, beating her previous best by over two seconds. She finished in 15th among the 43 competitors.
Four student-athletes represented SMU in the 200m. Freshman
Whitney Williams finished in 24.33 to come in 11th of 109. Her time placed her 8th all time at SMU.
Jordanae Scott improved her personal record with a 24.49 time while
Annette Bolomboy set a PR as well thanks to a time of 24.93.
Sharone' Johnson ran 25.81 in the final Mustang race of the day. SMU now has five of the fastest 200m runners in school history on the current roster.
On Friday, the Mustangs resume action from Albuquerque with a full day of events beginning with the Shot Put at 9:30 am CT / 8:30 am MT. SMU will also be in action for the first day of the Music City Challenge in Nashville.
Hannah Miller and
Olivia Lackner will run the 5000m at 8:05 p.m. CT.
