BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas (SMU) -- The Mustangs closed out their 2025 track and field season in the NCAA West First Round this weekend. Kirin Chacchia improved on her own school record with a new personal best time in the 400-meter hurdles in her final meet of the season.
On Thursday, Chacchia ran 57.37 to place 11th and qualify out of the first round and into the semi-finals. Senior Emily Waller ran her last race as a Mustang in the event as well, running a time of 1:01.22. In the semi-finals on Saturday, Chacchia, a sophomore, ran 59.15.
Nea Sanders represented the Mustangs in the 100m hurdles. The junior ran a time of 13.59 -- not far off her personal best in the event.
Senior Leoni Mierswa closed out the meet for SMU running 17:03.62 in the 5,000 – completing her career as a Mustang on one of the biggest stages in collegiate track and field.
"Chacchia, Mierswa, Sanders and Waller gave it their all this week, aiming high," Head Coach A'Havahla Haynes said. "We may have missed out on the NCAA qualification, but the effort and commitment were clear every step of the way. They have paved the way for what's next. We close out our 2025 season proud of the progress made."
