FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (SMU) -- Two Mustangs punched their tickets today to the 2026 NCAA Track and Field Championship. Nea Sanders and Kirin Chacchia qualified out of the quarterfinals in their respective hurdle races to secure their trip to Eugene.
Sanders went sub-13 seconds for the second time in her career to earn her qualification. The senior ran 12.99 to place fourth in her heat and eighth overall to qualify on time in a speedy round of the 100-meter hurdles.
"I am very blessed to be able to go to nationals," Sanders said. "I'm so excited to run at Hayward again. It is a beautiful and fast track. It is also nice to see my hard work paid off."
Kirin Chacchia earned a big Q by placing third in her heat for an automatic ticket to Eugene. She ran 57.29 in today's race.
"I made it," Chacchia said. "I am so grateful to God for giving me this opportunity, and I'm so excited to get to compete again in Oregon!"
Macey Hilton competed in the 800 quarterfinals and finished an outstanding career at SMU. She ran 2:07.56.
"Hard to believe four years is over," Hilton said. "I am proud of what I have done during my time here! Forever thankful for the decision I made to come to SMU and all the people who supported me throughout my journey."
Cleo Martin-Evans placed 16th overall in the long jump semi-finals to complete her first year at SMU. She jumped 6.30 meters.
In the triple jump, Senior Hedda Kvalvag had a great jump of 12.98 meters to place 24th. Freshman Lotta Edzards wrapped up her freshman year with a jump of 12.62 meters.
"These four years challenged me, shaped me, and taught me more about myself than I ever imagined," Kvalvag said. "I leave SMU with a grateful heart, lifelong friendships, and loving track and field more than ever. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!"
The NCAA Championship will be held June 10-13.
