Sanders, Chacchia Set To Compete At NCAA Outdoor Track And Field Championships

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU track and field hurdlers Nea Sanders and Kirin Chacchia will travel to Eugene, Oregon, to compete at the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field from June 10-13.

Day one of the women's championships begins on Thursday, June 11, with Sanders competing in the 100m hurdles, while Chacchia will run in the 400m hurdles. It is the first time since 2021 that SMU has had at least two individuals advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The 100m hurdle semifinals are slated to begin at 8:08 pm CT, while the 400m hurdle semifinals will begin at 9:14 pm CT. Finals for both events will be held on Saturday, June 13.

Fans can watch the Championships on the ESPN family of networks. Main coverage of day one and day two of the women's championships will air on ESPN2.

Nea Sanders will look to put the finishing touches on a historic season by adding All-America honors to her resume. Sanders punched her ticket to Eugene by running a sub-13-second time for the second time in her career. The senior ran a 12.99 to place fourth in her heat and eighth overall to qualify on time in the quarterfinals of the 100-meter hurdles. 

At the ACC Outdoor Championships, the senior became the first SMU female athlete to be crowned an ACC Champion, winning the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.04. She is making her first career appearance at the NCAA championships.

Kirin Chacchia punched her ticket to Eugene after earning a big Q by placing third in her heat with a time of 57.29 in the 400m quarterfinals. Chacchia broke the SMU 400m hurdles school record with a time of 56.75 to earn First-Team All-ACC honors, finishing third overall at the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The junior will be making her first appearance at the NCAA championships.
