DALLAS – SMU's Noah Goodwin was named to the Ben Hogan Award Watch List Wednesday, as determined by the award's selection committee. The Ben Hogan Award is given annually to the top college men's golfer, considering all collegiate and amateur competition from June to May.
 
Goodwin is currently the No. 4 golfer in the country, according to Golfstat's rankings, averaging 69.89 strokes per round and notching top-10 finishes in his first three events of the season. He won the Maridoe Intercollegiate by three strokes in October, and has shot par-or-better in eight of his first 11 rounds on the season.
 
This year's list of 10 semifinalists, which could include individuals not on the watch list, is unveiled on Wednesday, April 15. That group will be pared down to three finalists in May, and the finalists attend a black-tie dinner at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, where the winner is crowned.
 
The Ben Hogan Award Selection Committee votes during each stage of the process. It is comprised of leaders in collegiate, amateur and professional golf. The Ben Hogan Trophy was first issued in 1990 and also included academic achievement in its original list of standards. In 2002, the Ben Hogan Award moved to Fort Worth, Texas, and revised its criteria to its current standard of honoring the outstanding amateur collegiate golfer.
 
Goodwin, and the No. 13 SMU men's golf team, are currently competing in the third round of The Prestige presented by Charles Schwab.
