HOUSTON (SMU) – The SMU men's swimming and diving team posted a pair of runner-up finishes to open the four-day American Athletic Conference Championships.
Parker Hardigree led a trio of Mustangs in the 1 meter Championship Final, finishing second with a six-round 332.35. Hardigree finished just ahead of teammate
Peter Smithson, who came in at 332.10 for third. The finish made it the first time since 2016 that two Mustang divers made the podium in any event.
Dominic Hoefer joined the pair in the Championship Final, posting a standout night of his own. The freshman turned in a season-best 301.75, giving him his first NCAA score in the event and fourth place points.
The Mustangs' 800-yard freestyle relay team of
Colin Feehery,
Daniel Forndal,
Matan Segal and
Wyatt Cronk turned in a season-best 6:26.98, which was just off the school-record 6:26.62 set by Blaine Morgan, Lars Frolander, John Simmons and Ryan Berube in 1996, to finish second.
ECU leads the team standings with 119 points, Cincinnati is second at 102, Connecticut third at 88 and SMU fourth with 85.
Thursday's slate features the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle relay. Day two swimming prelims begin at 10 a.m. CT, with finals action starting at 6 p.m.
