Mustangs Win 8-1 Over SUNY New Paltz

– No. 6 SMU earned its second win of the week, defeating SUNY New Paltz, 8-1, in a jumping seat competition at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion on Friday afternoon.

"Overall, we rode better today than we did yesterday," head coach Carol Gwin said. "We focused on having less errors and getting some new faces in the lineup."

Starting the day with Fences, the Mustangs (6-3, 2-0 ECAC) earned four points, while the Hawks (1-7, 0-5 ECAC) earned one. Tali DeJong was first on the board for SMU, scoring a 77 to top her opponent by 13 points. Next up, Devin Seek scored a career-high 89 points to win over her SUNY New Paltz competitor by 18 and secure her second Most Outstanding Player honor of the season.

Olivia Woodson also set a new career high, scoring an 86 for the third Mustang point. An 84 for Vivian Yowan helped SMU secure the event win and take a 4-1 lead heading into the break.

With four wins and a tie, SMU won Flat competition, 4-0. Seek earned her second point of the day and first career Flat point with a score of 75. Freshman Addison Piper scored a 53 to earn the first point of her career in her Flat debut with the Mustangs. Miranda Seade and Yowan closed out the event for SMU with scores of 79 and 74, respectively. Seade's performance earned the MOP award for the event.

Next up, the Mustangs are back at the Dallas Equestrian Center to take on TCU on Saturday, February 29 for Senior Day. Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. CT and competition will start shortly after.
