THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The SMU women's golf team shot 3-under in Tuesday's final round of the Icon Invitational at The Woodlands Country Club.
"Today we putted lights-out, so it was really fun to watch," head coach
Jeanne Sutherland said. "I was really proud of how the team played, their attitudes and how much desire they took to the round today."
The Mustangs' 285 represents the second time in as many weeks SMU has broke par, and is the team's best gross total of the season. No. 5 Kent State won the event at 10-under par, and the Mustangs finished 11
th at 19-over.
Three Mustangs went par-or-better Tuesday at the Tournament Course that has hosted PGA, LPGA and Champions Tour events, led by
Serena Shah's career-best 68 (-4).
Kennedy Pedigo and
Faith Summers each signed for an even par 72. All three—Shah, Pedigo and Summers—played consistent golf in the final round, with only one bogey apiece.
Megan Daleo was not far behind, taking 73 strokes to get around the par 72 / 6,392-yard Tournament Course. Daleo, along with Pedigo and Summers, tied for 30
th at 4-over par. Daleo finished top-30 for the third consecutive tournament, with Pedigo and Summers picking up a spot in the top-30 for the second time in three events this spring. Shah tied for 43
rd at 7-over. Tulsa's Lorena Tseng took medalist honors at 7-under.
Daleo and Summers' tournaments were highlighted by playing the four par 3s at 2-under through the three rounds. Pedigo led the team by playing the four par 5s at 3-under.
Lauren Chappell tied for 69
th after a final-round 78 to finish at 19-over. Competing as an individual,
Sophie DiGesualdo finished 74
th at +26, turning in a 77 Tuesday.
The Mustangs return to action March 20-22 at the Mountain View Collegiate, hosted by Missouri in Saddlebrook, Arizona.
