Women's Golf's Summers Ties For Fifth At SMU/DAC Challenge

Feb 3

DALLAS – SMU's Faith Summers posted her best finish of the season, tying for fifth at the SMU/DAC Challenge Monday. Summers was one of three members of the women's golf team to finish in the top-20 at the 36-hole, one-day event.

Summers posted an even-par 72 in the afternoon round at Dallas Athletic Club, her second round of even par in her last four. She led the tournament with seven birdies on the par 72 / 6,151-yard track, finishing at 7-over par (79-72=151).

As a team, the Mustangs finished sixth at +70, without the score of Summers, who was playing as an individual. SMU improved by 26 strokes in the second trip around the Nicklaus-designed Blue Course, posting the tournament's third-best score in the afternoon round at 310 (+22). Baylor won the event at 19-over par, and the Bears' Diane Baillieux was the individual winner at even-par 144.

"We played better the second time around," head coach Jeanne Sutherland said. "We need to do a better job of adjusting for the wind and weather. We will be working hard to improve our short game and course management before heading to New Orleans for our next event."

Kennedy Pedigo notched her second straight top-15 finish, tying for 11th at 13-over par (81-76=157) to lead the Mustang lineup. Megan Daleo registered her best finish since arriving on the Hilltop, checking in at 17th at 160 (+16).

Serena Shah climbed up the leaderboard during the second round, increasing her standing by 10 to a solo-28th finish. Shah had a second-round 75 (+3) to finish the tournament at 21-over par. Sophie DiGesualdo notched four birdies to tie for 29th at 23-over par. Lauren Chappell tied for 31st at 24-over par.

Competing as individuals, Katie James finished 37th at 26-over par and Ana Carola Ramirez tied for 38th at 30-over par.

The Mustangs return to the course February 16-18 at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate, hosted by Tulane at New Orleans' English Turn Golf & Country Club.
